Shakti yoga dance is a journey that combines yoga and dance, guiding us to deeper states through this union, which at first glance may seem distinct. Throughout the session, we explore our emotions, reconnect with our essence, our "inner self," face our fears, and release tensions, whether physical or mental. We step out of our comfort zone and connect with the elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether, through both yoga postures and dance.
Shakti is the Hindu goddess who represents divine strength, capable of destroying demonic forces and restoring balance to the universe. As the mother goddess and source of all creation, Shakti is also responsible for the transformations in the world. Beyond power and creation, her main attributes include protection, communication, and femininity.
In this practice, we allow Shakti’s energy to be present, so our emotions can surface, helping us to better understand them through dance—with joy and fun—accepting and releasing what no longer serves us, making room for new experiences.
The body’s movements should be fluid, synchronized with the music and breath. It is through these movements that we release all excess.
There is no need to be a yoga practitioner or to know how to dance to experience this practice. Both women and men can participate, as the feminine energy (Shakti) is a part of all of us, regardless of gender.
It will be a journey without a destination. So, prepare yourself, come with an open mind, and enjoy the moment.
